May-Flower-Pink, small, and punctual

May-Flower- Pink, small, and punctual
Pink, small, and punctual,
Aromatic, low,
Covert in April,
Candid in May,

Dear to the moss,

Known by the knoll,
Next to the robin
In every human soul.

Bold little beauty,

Bedecked with thee,
Nature forswears
Antiquity.

I think that Emily Dickinson is trying to convey a message of being yourself.  She says that everyone has a little flower in their soul just waiting to bloom.  The flower in one's soul will bloom as soon as the time is right, like a flower in May.  One's flower may be hidden or covered, but it will come out soon enough.  She also says that nature believes that it will not stay.  Someone may have a change in heart about something and their flower will die, but a new one will come again.

  1. "...everyone has a little flower in their soul just waiting to bloom." I like this description.
